Roma director Monchi praised Coach Eusebio Di Francesco for handling the Patrik Schick situation and shrugged off Premier League interest.
The Giallorossi visit Chievo at 11.30 GMT, follow the build-up and action on the Liveblog.
“The Coach has dealt with Schick’s situation well after his injury problems and slowly integrated him into the squad. Now he is ready to start and the Coach made this decision,” the director told Mediaset Premium.
“It’s true that Edin Dzeko needed a bit of a rest, as he played so many games. Schick can play both on the right and as a centre-forward. He is taking this role today, but the advantage with Patrik is that he is so versatile.”
With last night’s 0-0 draw in Turin, Roma have an opportunity to close the gap on the leading pack.
“Juventus-Inter was an interesting game with a great deal of intensity. We have to continue along our path, as those two are very strong teams and are having a great season, but we need to continue our growth process.
“I am surprised in a positive way by the tactical level of every team, all the way through Serie A. That’s a sign of how difficult Serie A is and how good all the Coaches are, even in the smaller clubs.”
There were reports this week that Premier League clubs were courting Di Francesco following his remarkable Serie A and Champions League results. Do Roma need to lock him down to a new contract?
“We are right now concentrated on our campaign, as there are many important things to do. He knows my faith in him and I think he is happy too.
“When someone is happy, there’s no reason to leave or discuss the future. Di Francesco has faith in Roma and Roma have faith in him.”
