Lazio director Igli Tare insists they must believe in Scudetto potential. “The table says we are up there and we have to believe all the way.”
It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 20.00 GMT, click here for the line-ups.
A win this evening would put the Aquile in joint fourth place with Roma, and both Olimpico sides have a game in hand.
“The table says we are up there, and with a game in hand, so we have to believe all the way because this season Lazio have shown great quality. We’re missing a few points, but can get them back along the way,” Tare told Mediaset Premium.
“We were convinced that we had a great squad and they confirmed that, above all with the two victories over Juventus in Serie A and the Italian Super Cup.
“It’s also essential we play every game as if it was a cup final and take it one week at a time.”
Not only are stars like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Stefan de Vrij attracting interest from other clubs, but Coach Simone Inzaghi is also sought-after.
“Inzaghi has a contract with Lazio for another two years. Milinkovic-Savic renewed six months ago. At this moment, Lazio have clear ideas and we don’t want to be a surprise as such, but give consistency, because the history of this club teaches us we must be demanding.
“That means working based on ideas and finding lads who can represent the future of this club.”
Lazio will take on Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League Round of 32.
“I won’t disguise the fact I am happy with the draw, as we could’ve been paired with a more prestigious club than Steaua Bucharest.
“Having said that, we respect them and realise the away leg will be a cauldron in their stadium, but we want to go as far as possible in the Europa League.”
