Matthaus: ‘Juventus not as good now’

Former Inter player Lothar Matthaus believes Juventus “are not the same team that controlled Serie A for the last few years”.

The Bianconeri have been drawn against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League, and in discussing the form of the striker the German legend gave his thoughts on the Scudetto holders.

“Juventus are not the same team that controlled Serie A for the last few years,” Matthaus wrote in the Sun.

“Maybe the other teams have improved. But I think it is more because they have lost some of what they had defensively.

“They had to make a couple of changes after losing Dani Alves and Leonardo Bonucci.

“Bonucci was the leader at the back and held things together. Without him, the real power, the core of this Juve team has gone while Gigi Buffon is not as young or agile as he was.

“They are not as strong or safe at the back as last season, which is good for Kane and boss Mauricio Pochettino.”
