Sinisa Mihajlovic admits Torino defending wasn’t up to par in the 3-1 home defeat, “but when Napoli play like that, they are difficult to contain.”
Kalidou Koulibaly nodded in from a corner after four minutes, before Piotr Zielinski and Marek Hamsik strikes.
“Unfortunately, when Napoli play like that, they are difficult to contain. They are stronger than us, they scored within four minutes and were 3-0 up by half-time,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.
“What I did see was the desire to fight even when 3-0 down. We changed system, scored a goal and had a great chance with Iago Falque to make it 3-2.
“At the moment when I had decided to risk it all, Adem Ljajic got an injury, the substitutions were completed and the game ended there.”
The defending left a lot to be desired, especially on the first two goals.
“We use zonal marking on corners, so the most difficult in those situations is one that is flicked on. These are situations that a zonal defence will struggle on. Every system has its strengths and weaknesses,” explained Mihajlovic.
“If we had done better, especially on the second goal, because there shouldn’t have been all that space for Piotr Zielinski, as we knew they liked to pass through the centre.
“We’ve had five very difficult games recently, they are behind us and now we’ll try to pick up points. Andrea Belotti also broke his drought and we hope he’ll keep going now.
“Ljajic did what he had to do, unfortunately he was injured during our best period of the game. It’s the second time this has happened, as with Verona I asked if everyone was ok, made the third substitution and a minute later Gallo got hurt.”
