These sides already met on Wednesday in the Coppa Italia, a 3-0 Rossoneri victory, but the San Siro crowd spent the entire evening hurling abuse at their goalkeeper amid reports of a contract dispute.

“We told everyone to forget the Coppa Italia tie, as this is a very different game and three points are fundamental to chase down the teams ahead of us,” Abbiati told Mediaset Premium.

“Donnarumma was disappointed by the incident, certainly, but he trained well this week, was relaxed and made an important statement on social media.

“The lad is a part of the club and he is important to us.”

Coach Gennaro Gattuso is trying to keep squad rotation to a minimum after two wins on the bounce between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, having definitively scrapped Vincenzo Montella’s old three-man defence.

“At this moment we need consistency and guarantees, so he prefers to put the same players on the field. We will need everyone, the team is in good shape physically and they’ll all get to contribute.”
