Benevento Coach Roberto De Zerbi admits the 2-1 defeat to SPAL “really hurts” after they had taken “a fully-deserved lead.”
Le Streghe have earned only one point in 17 Serie A rounds, a last-gasp 2-2 draw with Milan, and are increasingly distant from the safety zone.
“This defeat really hurts,” De Zerbi told Sky Sport Italia.
“We had taken a fully deserved lead, but then you have to control the game and interpret it properly. When it was 1-1, we could’ve restored our advantage with Gaetano Letizia, but instead conceded for 2-1.
“The second goal really knocked the wind out of our sails. I still believe we can achieve safety, as we fight it out in every match, even if we end up losing.
“It’s very disappointing that we have so far been unable to turn things around. We just have to roll our sleeves up and keep going. We work intensely all week and it’s sad to end up empty-handed again.”
