Milan recall relegation season

Milan’s seven defeats this season is the same number as at this point in their relegation season of 1981-82.

The Rossoneri were thrashed 3-0 by Verona yesterday, a result which leaves them 14 points off the Champions League places and only 10 off the relegation zone.

While they won’t be relegated, Premium Sport notes that the Diavolo have lost seven times already, a similar record to the one they had at this stage in the year they were relegated.

In that season they lost seven of their first 16 games, though it was a 30 games season, and Week 17 yesterday saw their seventh loss.

During the 1981-82 season, the Rossoneri never came from behind to win a game and in each of their defeats this season they have conceded first.

Milan were demoted to Serie B as part of the Totonero scandal, but they came straight back up.

However, in the 1981-82 season they were relegated on the pitch, winning just seven of 30 games.

The Rossoneri have a number of other issues, including conceding at least two goals in eight of their games this season.

Former Coach Vincenzo Montella returned an average of just 1.42 points, but so far Gattuso has fared even worse with 1.33.
