SPAL announced they have secured the financing to revamp the Stadio Paolo Mazza and increase the capacity to 16,000.
The arena currently holds 13,020 spectators, so they are allowed to use it in the top flight thanks only to a special dispensation by the FIGC.
“The biggest test will be to safeguard our Serie A status and we’ll do everything to stay in the top flight,” said President Walter Mattioli.
“It is the most difficult year, we’ll fight to the end, but we’ll do it.”
The stadium was only a 7,000-seater until a step up to 13,020 over the summer, which cost €4.6m.
Of that, €2m came from the Ferrara city council and €2.6m from SPAL, but today the club signed an agreement with the Credito Sportivo Italiano bank for €1.8m.
“This stadium is a symbol of the city. We must go towards the needs of the fans so they can follow SPAL with their families. The idea is to invest,” added Mattioli.
