Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly warns “it’s not just Juventus” he and his teammates have to look our for in the Scudetto race.
The Partenopei sit top of Serie A, but it’s one of the closest title races in years with Juve just a point behind, Inter a point behind them and Roma further two points back with a game in hand.
“We’re very satisfied with what we’ve done so far,” Koulibaly told Il Mattino.
“First place is worth a lot, but we know the road ahead is long. We need to do our best and win as many games as possible, starting with Sampdoria on Saturday.
“It’s not just Juventus we need to look out for. Inter are very strong this year, Roma are doing well and Lazio are a good team too.
“At the moment these five teams are definitely in the running for the Scudetto. Sampdoria are going through a difficult period, but they play in a similar way to us and they’ll be a difficult team to face.
“These are the games we have to win though, because that’s the only way to aim for the Scudetto. They’ve been waiting for it in Naples for a long time.
“We hope we’re still first in March/April.”
Koulibaly was then asked what has made the difference for Napoli this season.
“In the previous few years we’ve started ahead but then experienced difficulties. This year we want to stay there, to make history with Napoli.
“We’re aware that we can and must win something, in the dressing room there’s a real desire to do something to remember.
“We’re all focused on the same goal: winning the Scudetto. Maybe that took away some of our energies for the Champions League group stage, I don’t know.
“We’re definitely disappointed with the first game, where we naively lost to Shakhtar [Donetsk], it would have been very important to start off on the right foot.
“But now we must try to give our best in the Europa League. And, as we saw yesterday, even those who play less can do well.”
