Sassuolo boss Beppe Iachini admired their comeback in the second half against Atalanta, even if it wasn’t enough to stay in the Coppa Italia.

The Neroverdi pushed hard in a bid to force extra time, especially after Jasmin Kurtic was sent off, but it is Atalanta who go on to face Napoli in the quarter-final.

“We came here above all to see some lads who hadn’t been given a chance to show what they could do so far,” Iachini told Rai Sport following the 2-1 defeat.

“It was only normal that we’d make some mistakes and there is work to be done, but we already corrected a few issues in the second half and it was a very different performance. Then I saw the Sassuolo we’ve enjoyed over the last few weeks.

“This is the right spirit and these are necessary steps in the growth process. I liked the second half showing and the desire to fight back.”
