Luciano Spalletti insists he is “more convinced than ever” in Inter’s potential after their second consecutive defeat to Sassuolo.
The Nerazzurri went from being the only unbeaten side in Serie A to losing two on the bounce against Udinese and the Neroverdi.
“I am even more convinced than ever that Inter know what they’re doing, because I saw the right performances in both these games,” assured the Coach on Mediaset Premium following the 1-0 loss.
“There are moments when we’re not so consistent or lack a bit of smarts, such as conceding an avoidable goal on the counter-attack. We should’ve done better in that situation and we didn’t make the most of our own scoring opportunities, which is why this defeat happened.”
Mauro Icardi had the chance to equalise, but saw his penalty parried by goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.
“We had chances that went close to the upright or others where we weren’t sharp enough. The team put in the performance, it was aggressive and constantly pushed Sassuolo back into their own penalty area. We could’ve done with a few more quality passes.
“Matteo Politano deserves credit for the goal, because he ran for 80 metres with the ball at his feet. We paid a heavy price for mistakes in key moments.
“I saw a reaction when we went behind and we put so many balls into the box.”
Spalletti surprised by giving Joao Cancelo his first start, moving Danilo D’Ambrosio over to left-back.
“It brought advantages, as D’Ambrosio can do well on either side and Cancelo provided a lot of quality. I don’t think the team was unbalanced, because we put so many balls in to the area.”
