Juventus Player Ratings v Roma

Medhi Benatia got the winner for Juventus, but it was another ex-Roma player who stood out in the Football Italia player ratings.

Words: Ciro Di Brita - @Ciruzzo36

Wojciech Szczesny – 7.5

The ex-Roma keeper made one decent stop to thwart Stephan El Shaarawy in the first half and proved absolutely decisive in stoppages on Patrik Schick.

Andrea Barzagli – 6

Solid performance from the old timer.

Medhi Benatia – 7

Scored the opening goal at the third time of asking against his old side. Had Edin Dzeko in his pocket all night.

Giorgio Chiellini – 6

One piece of excellent defending on Dzeko in the box, then one poor lapse in concentration when he let a long ball just go past him, from which Alessandro Florenzi hit the bar.

Alex Sandro – 6.5

Good night, up and down the left wing, showed El Shaarawy who was boss.

Juan Cuadrado – 6

Not as many histrionics as usual tonight, quiet by his standards of flopping about like a fish.

Miralem Pjanic – 6

Another ex-Roma player that was looking to score against his old team, had a thunderous shot tipped on to the bar by Alisson.

Blaise Matuidi – 6.5

Had a solid game, covered a lot of ground before injuring himself when taking a shot.

Sami Khedira – 6

Having no pace let him down when Higuain played him in early in the first half. Faded from the game after.

Gonzalo Higuain – 6

Looked hungry early, made a couple of nice moves before he blazed over instead of making it 2-0. Disappeared in the second half.

Mario Mandzukic – 7

Headed wide when he should have at least hit the target in the first half. Put in his usual hard-working shift of playing as centre back, left back and left midfield.

Federico Bernardeschi – 6

Came on for Cuadrado and just played behind the ball.

Claudio Marchisio – 6

Replaced the injured Matuidi.
