Pioli: ‘Milan game is important’

Stefano Pioli says the game with Milan is “important” for Fiorentina, and believes the Rossoneri are better than their position would suggest.

The two sides meet tomorrow at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, and the Diavolo will go above the Viola if they win.

“We have so much desire and enthusiasm,” Pioli told reporters in his pre-match Press conference.

“I can’t judge the trend of Milan’s season, because I don’t know them well enough.

“The Rossoneri are in a position which is too penalising for the ability of their squad, [Gennaro] Gattuso has players with personality and great potential. They deservedly won the Coppa match [against Inter].

“We’re facing two strong teams, [Milan and Inter] in the next two games, but I expect a lot from my team.

“Games like tomorrow’s are the right opportunity to test ourselves. It would be good to close the first half of the season well.

“It’s still too early for this to be a head-to-head game, because there’s still a long way to go and there are a lot of teams fighting for sixth place.

“We just have to think about winning as many games as possible between now and the end of the season.

“There are definitely teams better equipped than us, or teams that have done better than you’d expect.

“We just have to win games, if we win a lot of them it means we’ll be in the race for the Europa League too, but if we drop off by five per cent we become a normal team and that’s not what we want to be.

“If we don’t play with intensity and rhythm we become predictable and that’s what happened to us against Roma.”
