Marco Giampaolo couldn’t celebrate Sampdoria’s last-gasp win over SPAL, because he was so angry at the state of their “disgusting” pitch.

Fabio Quagliarella converted a penalty at the 92nd minute and then added a second goal moments later for the 2-0 result at Marassi.

“In order to play good football, you need quality players and a decent playing surface,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“You can quote me on this, our pitch is disgusting. A pitch like this works to the advantage of a team that tries to be defensive. It forced my team to change its attitude.

“I can’t analyse the performance on a technical level, I can only judge the temperament, and in that sense the lads were faultless. When the ball doesn’t roll cleanly, you can’t pass it rapidly, because you don’t know where it’s going to end up.

“Quagliarella runs a lot and he does it efficiently too. He knows when and where to sprint. Now he’s scoring regularly and has great confidence too. I know how important he is for this team.”
