Verona Coach Fabio Pecchia has told his club’s board to grant him new signings if they wish to stay in Serie A.

The Scaligeri are second-bottom of the table at the season’s half-way point, having accumulated 13 points from 19 matches played so far.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Bentegodi boss is not convinced that his current squad of players has the strength in depth it needs to avoid an immediate return to Serie B at the end of the campaign.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Bentegodi boss is not convinced that his current squad of players has the strength in depth it needs to avoid an immediate return to Serie B at the end of the campaign.

“We are short, and I am not referring to quality,” Pecchia is quoted as saying.

“We can’t run the risk of finding ourselves in an emergency because of an incident or problem at the end.”

Sporting director Filippo Fusco is said to be exploring possible targets, with Udinese’s Ryder Matos said to be close to signing.

Benevento’s Marco D’Alessandro, on loan from Atalanta, is another potential arrival.
