Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez reveals Atalanta had been “confident we could get the three points today” after a 2-1 win at Roma.

The Orobici had been 2-0 up at the Stadio Olimpico with Andreas Cornelius and Marten De Roon goals, but De Roon was sent off for a second bookable offence.

They still held out for the entire second half, even after Edin Dzeko’s goal.

“We wanted to make up for the points we lost to Cagliari last time out,” Gomez told Mediaset Premium.

“It’s a pity about the red card, because we had been in control. It wasn’t easy, but we proved that Atalanta are a really tough side capable of beating anyone.

“We are in great shape physically and lately Roma had a few setbacks. We were confident that we could get the three points today.”
