A media row has erupted between Milan and the Mayor Giuseppe Sala, who asked publicly “when can you tell me if you’ll invest in San Siro?”
The issue was sparked today by Mayor Sala commenting that the Rossoneri were looking into options to build their own arena and should make a decision within two to three months.
The club replied with an official statement assuring they had no intention of leaving San Siro in the short-term.
This seems to be what Sala was aiming for, as he immediately tweeted out a response.
“I note Milan’s statement on San Siro. Let’s just make this simple: I think that for Milan, for the fans and the tourists, the stadium needs to be modernised.
“When will Milan be able to tell me if they are available or not to invest along with us in our stadium?”
Inter have already said they’ll help revamp the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, which they share with Milan, but is owned by the local council.
"Let it be clear, the invite also goes out to Inter, because this is the stadium of Milanese people," added Sala in a later tweet.
