Vincenzo Montella won back some admiration from Sevilla fans after a shock 2-1 Copa del Rey victory away to Atletico Madrid.

The former Milan Coach had been under fire for his side’s results and performances, losing both La Liga outings back-to-back.

He had also been trailing at the Wanda Metropolitano this evening with Diego Costa on target, but completed the comeback in the final 11 minutes through an own goal and Joaquin Correa.

It’s just the first leg of the quarter-final, but already a very impressive result for Montella.

Not only are Sevilla the first Spanish side to beat Atleti at their new Wanda Metropolitano ground, but Diego Simeone has lost just two competitive games here and they were both against Italian tacticians.

The other saw Antonio Conte’s Chelsea conquer the arena 2-1 in the Champions League.
