Santos had hoped to announce the return of Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa from Inter today, but it was postponed by red tape.

The striker was sold for €29.5m in the summer of 2016, but never received a single Serie A start, while his loan at Benfica hasn’t gone any better.

A comeback to Brazil is all decided, with Gabigol taking a pay cut to help the loan with option to buy go through smoothly.

According to Globoesporte, Santos were planning to announce the transfer on Friday evening, but were delayed by red tape issues and missing documentation.

They are still confident that he’ll be in the stands on Monday so that he can be presented to the fans ahead of their Paulista Championship game against Bragantino.

Santos intend to pay approximately one quarter of Gabigol’s salary, leaving the rest to be covered by Inter.
