Francesco Totti jokes about what he’d give Gianluigi Buffon for his 40th birthday - “a time machine, maybe he’d give me a lift!”
The Roma legend celebrated his 40th birthday in 2016, and retired at the end of the season after spending his entire career with one club.
“The first thing I think is that we’ve both aged and it’s a real shame,” Totti told La Stampa of the goalkeeper he’s been national teammates with since the Italy Under-15 squad.
“After all, when you review your friend’s career it’s a bit like going back over your own life. His career has been fantastic and now I wish him well for his 40th.
“Of course if he still wanted to play it would mean the real Pupone is him!
“What gift would I give him? A time machine, maybe he’d give me a lift!
“He and [Fabio] Cannavaro both called me about coming to Roma. I’d liked to have seen them with us.”
Totti was then asked what his best goal against Buffon was, and the best save Gigi made against him.
“I’ll choose one for each shirt so we don’t go wrong. The chip against Parma and the shot from outside the box against Juventus in the 2012-13 season.
“Among the saves I’d say the one at the end in Turin in 2003. I tried the cucchiaio and that phenomenon read me.”
