Ballardini: 'Pellegri destined for greatness'

Davide Ballardini prepares Genoa for the Udinese test and is confident Monaco-bound Pietro Pellegri “is destined to have a great career.”

It kicks off on Sunday at 14.00 GMT, click here for a match preview.

“We must build on the second half against Juventus, the attitude we showed, the character and hunger to cause problems for our opponents,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Both Genoa and Udinese have been transformed since the change of management, as Massimo Oddo revitalised the Friulani after Gigi Del Neri and Ballardini picked up the pieces following Ivan Juric’s dismissal.

“The situations are different, as Udinese were never in the relegation zone. They have great strength, quality and physicality in a full squad. Perhaps they weren’t doing as well as the club expected before, but now they are on track.

“We have to take them on as a team, with unity and not allowing them to have one-on-one duels. I hope to see Giuseppe Rossi back in training as soon as possible, because we all enjoy watching him.”

Genoa’s 16-year-old striker Pellegri is in Monaco today to undergo a medical and complete his transfer for a reported €25m plus 10 per cent of future sale fee.

“We ought to congratulate the youth academy, because every year they send interesting young players to the senior squad,” noted Ballardini.

“Pellegri has enormous potential. He just needs to stay calm, train hard and he is destined to have a great career.”
