Damiano Tommasi insists he is “a candidate to become the FIGC’s President and not just something that tips the scale.”

Tommasi’s current role as head of the Italian Players’ Union (AIC) has been tipped to work in his favour, but the former Roma midfielder made it clear he wanted to be elected on merit and not his connections.

“At the moment, we’re in the starting grid. There are three candidates and we’ll see what the polls say,” he told RMC Sport.
