Stats of the Serie A weekend

Saturday night saw Juventus take on Chievo at the Bentegodi, with the chance to leapfrog Napoli at the top of the table.

Partenopei Coach Maurizio Sarri has complained in recent weeks about the fact his side are often playing after the Bianconeri, meaning a Juve win has his side under pressure right from the start of their match.

There was little chance of the Old Lady slipping up this weekend, with eight wins and a draw in the previous nine matches in Verona, and Massimiliano Allegri’s side duly took a 2-0 win.

Juve were of course helped by the fact Chievo were reduced to nine-men, and the fact they took a narrow win was far from unusual in this fixture.

In only 50 per cent of the last 10 meetings between these sides at the Bentegodi has there been over 2.5 goals.

That left Napoli two points behind going into the Verona game, but boasting an average of just 0.6 goals conceded at home.

The San Paolo crowd must have feared the worst when Bologna took the lead after just one minute, with 21 per cent of their goals conceded so far having come in the first 10 minutes of matches.

Sarri’s side are more resilient this season though, having won all but one of the Serie A matches in which they’ve conceded the first goal.

The top two moved further clear of the chasing pack, with Lazio, Inter and Roma all failing to win.

The Nerazzurri continued a run of six games without a Serie A win, drawing 1-1 at Spal.

Their one goal continued a trend of struggling to score on the road, with an average of two goals at San Siro but just 1.36 on their travels.

Spal’s late equaliser also continued an unwelcome trend, with the Beneamata conceding nine goals from the 81st minute onward - 24 per cent of their total goals conceded.
