The Granata fought back from a Lucas Torreira free kick to earn a 1-1 draw at Marassi, despite seeing Afriyie Acquah first score and then get sent off.

“I was sent off because we were already down to 10 men when Lorenzo De Silvestri was left bleeding from a knock to the head. The referee should’ve stopped play, so I got angry. Fortunately they didn’t score, otherwise I would’ve been even angrier,” Mazzarri told Sky Sport Italia.

“We put in a great performance and dominated one of the form sides in Serie A, so it’s disappointing we only emerged with a point. This team has been reacting really well for four games now and they retain the movements so well it’s like watching a Playstation match.

“We can always do better in taking our chances, but I can’t complain about the defending. Unfortunately, I’ve rarely had the opportunity to make tactical changes at Torino, as I always get forced into them by injuries or red cards.”

Andrea Belotti came off the bench and is continuing his recovery from a knee injury.

“In terms of his physicality and athleticism, Andrea reminds me of Edinson Cavani, who I trained at Napoli.”
