Martin Caceres wants to stay at Lazio beyond the end of his current short-term deal at the club.
The Uruguayan defender joined the Biancocelesti from Verona in January’s transfer window on a contract until the end of the season.
And speaking to Sport 890, the former Juventus centre-back admitted he is enjoying his time back in Italy far more than his spell in England, where he made just one appearance for Southampton.
“In five months I have played a lot in Italy with Verona,” Caceres began.
“In England I didn’t, I was only on the pitch once. I was scared after my tendon injury.
“However, now I feel great. I have a contract with Lazio until June but I hope to stay for a long time.”
The 30-year-old is also hopeful of being included in his country’s World Cup squad this summer.
“I have been absent because of the injury, I’ve only played in qualifiers for the World Cup in Russia.
“I am happy to be back, I needed it. Playing in Europe is nice, but the national team is the national team.
“I would prefer to win a Copa America or World Cup that the Champions League.”
