“Our midfield is going to have to control the game and force Napoli to chase the ball. They have a very specific identity, but we are confident that we can cause them problems.

“At times we have struggled to support two strikers simultaneously. Everton Luiz needs to improve his match fitness, while Federico Viviani has to whittle down some of the mistakes he has been making lately.”

Federico Mattiello is suspended, with Marco Borriello, Thiago Cionek and Eros Schiavon injured.

As they have slipped down the standings, rumours grew that Semplici risks the sack.

“We’ve worked calmly, we are focused and fired up. I haven’t had any unusual contact with the club.”
