The first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 is on Wednesday at 19.45 GMT.

“We’ve had two months off for the winter break, but worked in training, are concentrated and ready for the Champions League,” the tactician told TeleRadioStereo.

“Clearly, we see Italian and Roma games in Ukraine, as they are one of the historically biggest clubs in Serie A. They’re coming off three consecutive victories, so it’ll be a difficult test.

“Roma know full well it’ll be difficult for them too. We have our own style of football, we focus on attack and Roma must know it won’t be easy.

“We know that Roma play an aggressive style and we have a similar approach, so we know how to cause them problems. They are probably more physical than we are, but it’ll be an interesting match.”

Fonseca was asked what result he’d be happy with in the first leg.

“Any result, as long as it’s in favour of Shakhtar.”

If he could take a player away from the Roma squad, who would it be?

“Almost everyone! But being passionate about the sport, I am happy that Roma get to field all these wonderful players. We want football to be the winner.”
