Sampdoria are hopeful that Fabio Quagliarella will retire at the club after he won a prestigious fan award on Tuesday evening.
Quagliarella won the 34th edition of the ‘Rete d’Argento’, given to Samp’s best player of the past season, the veteran goalscorer following in the footsteps of Blucerchiati legends such as Graeme Souness, Roberto Mancini, Gianluca Vialli and Gianluca Pagliuca.
“Fabio’s a very polite man and a leader in the dressing room,” remarked sporting director Carlo Osti.
“He really wanted to come back here, Samp wanted him back too and he’s repaying our faith in him.
“He’s reliving his youth and I hope he can end his career in a Samp shirt.
“I think he really wanted this, and I think it’d be the right epilogue to a great career, at a time when there are few ‘bandiere’.”
