Sandro claims Tottenham Hotspur stopped him from joining Napoli in the past and that Benevento have the right man to keep them up in Roberto De Zerbi.
Sandro scored the winner in Benevento’s 1-0 victory over Crotone last weekend, and the former Brazil midfielder revealed just how close he came to signing for their southern rivals and how De Zerbi had given the Stregoni a new lease of life.
“Benevento chose me, and it’s a great opportunity for me to play in Serie A,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I could’ve gone to Napoli in the past, but it didn’t happen. When I was doing well at Tottenham, my agent told me that some clubs wanted me, but Tottenham didn’t want me to leave.
“Now I have the chance to play in A, I’ve played some games and I’m happy. My first goal? It was an important goal and I was very happy that it helped the team.
“Staying up? We talk about it in the dressing room, we’re all focused. We have a difficult game on Saturday, but it’s winnable.
“It all depends on how we’ll be on the pitch, whether we’re focused. De Zerbi? He’s very good, he always wants us to play the ball on the ground.
“I’m happy to work with him. He’s improving me and the other players. He has the right mentality.
“When you work with him, you feel happy. When you go out on the field, you feel like you’re learning something.”
