Simone Inzaghi is delighted with Lazio's Europa League progress and wants to avoid Arsenal and Atletico Madrid in tomorrow's last 16 draw.
Trailing 1-0 from their first leg with Steaua Bucharest, the Biancocelesti romped to a 5-1 win in the return at the Stadio Olimpico this evening, with Ciro Immobile scoring a hat-trick.
“The lads did really well to interpret the game with the right attitude straight from the start,” said the Coach in his Press conference.
“I talked to them yesterday and said it would be a pity to go out tonight. We did well, a single goal from them earlier in the game would’ve made everything much harder, but we did well to score three in the first half.
“I am happy that Ciro Immobile has surpassed my own goals record for Lazio, but he could’ve easily had four in one game, like I did. I hope he can play in the Champions League with the Lazio jersey."
Inzaghi was asked about Felipe Anderson, who returned to the Lazio line-up this evening despite reports of a problematic relationship between himself and the Coach.
“There was never any particular problem with Felipe Anderson, I simply wanted more from him. He deserves all the applause he received tonight, as he put in a great performance, especially off the ball, as he was always first to chase down opponents.
“We had asked for the fans to flock to the stadium and it was a passionate atmosphere. I didn’t notice the number of Romanian supporters in the arena."
Inzaghi is hopeful that defender Martin Caceres will be fit to face Sassuolo on Sunday despite picking up a knock during the win over the Romanian side.
“Martin Caceres got a knock to the knee, we’re hopeful he can play on Sunday. I always had faith our negative streak would end, as it was just a rough moment. We want to go all the way in every tournament, we welcome a packed fixture list.
“I hope tomorrow we get a good draw. I’d say we should avoid Arsenal and Atletico Madrid.”
