Striker Mauro Zarate reveals he wants a return to his old club Lazio. “I spoke to Simone Inzaghi and told him to call me back.”

The Argentine forward wore the Biancocelesti jersey from 2008 to 2011, then returned from a loan spell at Inter for the 2012-13 season.

“I would love to return to Lazio, even if it’d be difficult at the moment,” Zarate told Goal.com.

He turns 31 next month and is currently on loan at Velez Sarsfield from Watford, having until January been on loan with Al-Nasr.

“I often speak to Simone Inzaghi, because we played together, and we did talk about this hypothesis. I always tell him to call me back to Rome.

“However, it’s difficult because of the way we left things with President Claudio Lotito. If there’s the possibility, I will make the move.”

Zarate scored 34 goals and provided 27 assists in 126 games for Lazio, but his temper also showed through with one red card and 22 bookings.
