Benevento’s Bacary Sagna believes his side were denied a clear penalty in their defeat to Inter.
Early in the second half, with the score goalless, Danilo Cataldi appeared to be upended in the box by Nerazzurri defender Andrea Ranocchia – only for referee Luca Pairetto to wave play on.
It proved a turning point in the match as Le Streghe, despite a fine performance, went on to concede two set-piece goals and succumb to defeat.
“For me, the penalty on Cataldi was clear,” veteran defender Sagna commented.
“But it is difficult for the referee to make a decision because everything was going quite quickly.
“It was a negative incident that resulted in us losing the match.
“We played very well and I think the chances were there for us to leave the San Siro with a smile.”
Despite yet another defeat, the former Arsenal and Manchester City man still believes ‘anything is possible’ as Benevento continue their seemingly doomed battle to stay in Serie A.
“This match should make us think that if we always play like that, anything is possible. What has happened is now in the past.
“We think about the next match with Verona. It will be very important to win at home.”
