SPAL surged ahead with two goals in quick succession, as Lorenzo Simic’s looping header and Alberto Paloschi pouncing on a poor Barberis back-pass created a cushion.

The Calabrese club made it a tense finale with Budimir’s late diving header, but the Spallini held on for a huge six-pointer.
