Fiorentina assistant Giacomo Murelli says his side knew they had to beat Chievo ‘at all costs’ this afternoon.
The Viola were under heavy pressure heading into today’s contest at the Artemio Franchi, having failed to win at home in almost three months and fans continuing to protest at their poor form.
However, an early goal by Cristiano Biraghi ensured that, despite having to withstand some late Chievo pressure, the Florence side claimed a valuable three points.
“Today we had to get back to winning ways at all costs,” Murelli, standing in for ill Coach Stefano Pioli, said during his post-match interview.
“We are satisfied that we managed to do that.”
Murelli praised match-winner Biraghi and backed Diego Falcinelli and Giovanni Simeone to rediscover their goalscoring form.
“Today there were the ingredients for us to score, both through Falcinelli and Simeone.
“Fortunately it was Biraghi who got the goal, he did very well to score in the seventh minute.
“They [Falcinelli and Simeone] are two boys who work hard during the week. We are convinced that they will get back among the goals soon.”
