“Over the summer, Inter did make me an offer,” confessed the Spaniard to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I had just changed my agent and they spoke to him. I don’t know what Milan told my agent, but I had a very clear idea of what I wanted: to stay here and renew my contract.

“I could’ve left even without renewing the deal, but I am happy here. Of course, nothing is ‘for life’ in football, but it’s important to end the season on a high.”

The Rossoneri have soared up the standings since a rough start under Vincenzo Montella and been transformed under Rino Gattuso.

“There was the need for a change, but I will always thank Montella anyway. Everyone has their own style of management and hopefully he can win the Champions League at Sevilla.

“It’s safe to say his methods were different. When we were winning with him, nobody said anything about his method. Gattuso’s main quality is his passion, as he won so much and knows how all this works.

“That’s not all, though, as there is also a great deal of concentration in his Milan. I was struck by his desire to work hard, as he loves what he does and puts so much intensity into it. If you train like that, then a match situation becomes easier.

“I like the way Gattuso gets into people’s heads, as he is very sincere and talks a lot. During a game, I do prefer to play the first half on his touchline, so he gets all the shouting out the way and I can relax in the second!”

Former Liverpool talent Suso acknowledges the Derby della Madonnina is a special event in world football.

“San Siro is always full for the derby and has the choreography in the two stands. Anfield is beautiful, but I’ve never seen choreography like that from the fans.

“We’re in good shape at the moment and our legs don’t weigh on us when we have that enthusiasm. I don’t care if Inter go into a crisis after the derby, but if we win, then we’ll have a great chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

“Everyone says Mauro Icardi is the danger man for Inter, but I played with Rafinha in the Spain youth team, before he chose to represent Brazil, and he’s a fantastic player if fit.”
