Today’s seven Serie A games have been called off after Fiorentina captain Davide Astori’s death and could be played on March 14 and May 9.
The 31-year-old died in his sleep and was discovered in the team hotel this morning, where the squad was preparing to face Udinese.
That fixture was postponed as a sign of respect, along with the other Serie A and B games planned for today.
Serie A clubs will tomorrow discuss the timing for playing these matches, but there are already several possibilities.
The biggest problem is caused by Milan-Inter, as the Rossoneri are also in the Coppa Italia Final against Juventus on May 9 and the Europa League Round of 16 with Arsenal.
It’s possible the Coppa Italia Final could be moved to after the end of the Serie A season on May 20, instead playing the Milan Derby at San Siro on May 9.
The other Serie A Week 27 matches are expected to be played on Wednesday March 14, but cannot be in the evening because they would clash with Champions League fixtures.
Atalanta-Sampdoria cannot be played then, because Atalanta already have a game in hand against Juventus that was snowed off last weekend and has been rescheduled for March 14.
The games called off today are Genoa-Cagliari, Chievo-Sassuolo, Udinese-Fiorentina, Benevento-Verona, Torino-Crotone, Atalanta-Sampdoria and Milan-Inter.
