Andriy Shevchenko has hailed the impact made by ex-Milan teammate Gennaro Gattuso since becoming the club’s Coach. “He gave them their identity back.”

Shevchenko and Gattuso played together at San Siro between 1999 and 2006, winning a Scudetto and the Champions League during that time, and the former Milan striker has also moved into management, taking charge of his native Ukraine.

“Rino changed the face of Milan,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Rino changed the face of Milan,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He gave them their identity back, as well as a sense of belonging. He wants his players to be competitive and aggressive: he was like that as a player, so I’m not surprised.

“He’s someone who won’t give up even a millimetre. Rino’s not afraid of anything, he’s been given his chance and he’s taking advantage of it.

“I hope he takes Milan to Europe next season, even if a derby between Dinamo Kiev and Milan wouldn’t be easy for me.”
