PSG were comprehensively defeated 5-2 on aggregate by Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16, barely putting up a fight in Tuesday’s second leg, and Sacchi did not mince his words when assessing the French giants.

“Madrid faced a very weak team,” Sacchi, who guided Milan to back-to-back European Cups in 1989 and 1990 and is credited with helping modernise football, told Mediaset.

“PSG are just a group of individuals. The word ‘game’ can be difficult to describe, but it made the difference. Ideas can’t be bought.

“I thought I was going to see a PSG team with a knife between their teeth, but we ended up seeing Real Madrid with a cigar in their mouth.”
