Cesare Prandelli, who gave Davide Astori his Italy debut, calls the departed Fiorentina captain “a splendid lad and a kind person”.
The 31-year-old passed away on Sunday, shocking the world of Italian football and devastating his Viola teammates.
“He was a kind person and an elegant player who deserves all of our affection,” Prandelli told QN.
“Sunday will very touching, the Franchi will embrace his daughter, his partner, his brothers and his parents. An affection which only Florence can give in that way.
“They’ll also embrace the players who live as if they were family members themselves. The Franchi will have a big heart, and everyone will once again understand the love the Viola fans have and will always have for those who wear the shirt.
“Astori was a splendid lad, a kind person in spirit and attitude. That’s what makes it even more difficult to accept that he’s not with us anymore.”
