Roma Coach Eusebio Di Francesco declares “I’m not thinking about Shakhtar, I assure you” ahead of tomorrow’s Torino game.
The Giallorossi are in action in the Champions League next week, but first they must take on the Granata at the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow.
“First of all let’s think about tomorrow, I’ve heard far too much talk about Shakhtar,” Di Francesco said in his pre-match Press conference.
“I’m not thinking about Shakhtar, I assure you.
“Torino haven’t changed much [with Walter Mazzarri] in terms of how they play, they still play 4-3-3 but I must say Mazzarri is more careful in defence.
“With [Sinisa] Mihajlovic they were more aggressive. Walter is a friend, I grew up with him. I don’t have any wonderful memories against him and I hope to break that taboo.
“The Coppa Italia game? I made a few too many changes, but we played well. We lost two goals on dead balls, but too many changes didn’t help us and I regretted it.
“Could Kevin Strootman or Radja Nainggolan be rested? I don’t know, I’m only thinking about tomorrow’s game.
“I’ll make my assessments for Torino and then I’ll think about Shakhtar.”
Will Daniele De Rossi be mentally fit for tomorrow’s game, following the death of Davide Astori?
“He’s been very down, he was really close to Davide. From a physical point of view he’s available and could play from the start.”
Di Francesco was then asked about Juventus’ win over Tottenham Hotspur, and whether their battling spirit could be something the Giallorossi can learn from.
“They were hard to kill off, and I hope that mentality is transmitted to all of Italian football.”
The Lupi are coming off a 4-2 win over Napoli, but the Coach isn’t satisfied.
“It’s a starting point, what we’ve lacked in this period is consistency,” Di Francesco said.
“I’m not happy even with what happened in Naples when we conceded the second goal.
“We’ve given a bit too much away in defence recently, with went blow-for-blow with Napoli and fortunately we’re now scoring regularly.
“We can give more at the back, but I want more up-front. Analysing the game in Naples there were mistakes, but also a lot of quality play.”
