Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij has been asked to explain why he did not sign off an extra urine sample during a routine drug test.

According to reports on Friday afternoon, De Vrij did not test positive for any banned substances but was asked “to provide additional explanations” after he took two urine samples “to reach the necessary quantity” following Lazio’s game against Verona on February 19.

According to reports on Friday afternoon, De Vrij did not test positive for any banned substances but was asked “to provide additional explanations” after he took two urine samples “to reach the necessary quantity” following Lazio’s game against Verona on February 19.

More than one sample is acceptable, but any extra would need their own documents and the Dutchman only signed off one of them, meaning it must now be established whether the 26-year-old had committed a human error.

Cagliari attacker Joao Pedro was suspended earlier on Friday, the same day as his 26th birthday, after he failed a doping test.
