Milan have a mountain to climb if they are to reach the Europa League quarter-finals after a 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal in their last-16 first leg, but Kessie insists his side have what it takes to not only turn the tie around but finish in Serie A’s top four.

“Regarding our physical condition, I have no doubts,” he told Premium Sport.

“We were all ready for this type of game, but there was a lack of experience. This Milan are very young, we have only two or three players who are used to these types of games and I think that was why [we lost].

“Now that we know what we’re dealing with, we’re ready to give everything next Thursday.

“How much do we believe in the comeback? Anything is possible in football. During the last Champions League clash between Milan and Arsenal, Milan won 4-0 at home and then lost 3-0 in London.

“We lost at home, so it can happen to them too. Everything’s still open. What did Gattuso tell us after the game? He gave a good speech, that we had not lost for three months, needed to forget the result quickly and think about the next game.

“We’re fired up for the clash with Genoa. Now only this match counts and we have to take the three points.

“We really believe we can qualify for the Champions League.”
