“We weren’t far off and had some really good chances, especially in the second half, but in terms of focus and effort, it was much better than last week,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“If Juventus win every game for the rest of the season, then we can only applaud and tip our hats to them. We are not the richest club in Italy, we can push them all the way.

“Do we believe in the Scudetto? We continue to believe that we can do our best.”

Lorenzo Insigne had the best scoring opportunity at San Siro, but opted to place a lob over the bar rather than blast it one-on-one with Samir Handanovic.

“Insigne is having an extraordinary season. Tonight he missed our best chance, but it was one move within a great game and a great campaign. That is all.

“Mario Rui is doing very well in terms of passing, but of course when it comes to strength and pace, Ghoulam is superior. I thought that when he got hurt, Faouzi was one of the best two or three full-backs in Europe, so anyone would miss him.”

Sarri became increasingly irritable when asked if Napoli’s title chances were evaporating.

“I refuse to accept this idea that Napoli have given up. We put in a strong performance in a difficult arena against a side that pre-season everyone said would be ahead of us by now. We did so well throughout this campaign that we got people expecting things that were unrealistic.

“If you continue to ask me about Juventus, then I’m going to just leave, because we played Inter-Napoli tonight and Juventus had nothing to do with it.”

He then removed the earpiece and walked away early.
