Campania’s union of journalists has criticised Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri for his ‘sexist and unacceptable’ remarks to a female reporter.

The controversial incident happened after Napoli’s 0-0 draw with Inter on Sunday, but despite Sarri apologising to the reporter in question, Ottavio Lucarelli – chief of the Association of Journalists for the region – felt the Coach had showed “his contempt for the Press and women”.

“It was a sexist and unacceptable response,” he was quoted as saying by FCInter1908.it.

“Sarri apologised, but the seriousness of his response remains, which not only underlined the Coach’s vulgar language also but his contempt for the Press and women.

“We’re in total solidarity with our colleague Titti Improta, the secretary of the Association of Campania and the President of the Equal Opportunities Committee, who is receiving messages and support from all over Italy at this time.”
