Maicon recalled the ‘perfect’ Inter team he played in and urged the current crop to keep going in their pursuit of the Champions League.
Maicon played a key role in Inter’s emergence as a European heavyweight during the late 2000s, winning five Scudetti and the Champions League.
“That was a perfect world. Just looking into each other’s eyes was enough,” their former right-back told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“You don’t go anywhere with too many words, you need facts. Mancini rebuilt Inter, technically and mentally.
“He completely redid everything, also at club level, but Mourinho applied the final touches. He put the icing on the cake. He was the best Coach I’d ever worked with.
“More than the Champions League race, now Inter must go game by game, without the thought of the final objective.
“They must go one step at a time. Serie A is very difficult, even when you play against the teams down the bottom. The games this season prove it.”
