Ex-Inter defender faces prison?

Former Inter defender Caner Erkin reportedly faces two years in prison for insulting a referee during a Turkish League game.

Anadolu reports prosecutors in Istanbul have charged Erkin with ‘insulting an official responsible for public order’ after ‘gesticulating and shouting vulgar insults’ at referee Mete Kalkavan during Besiktas’ match against Istanbul Basaksehir last October.

Consequently, the said prosecutors are demanding ‘between one to two years’ behind bars for the left-back, who lasted just the summer of 2016 at Inter before moving to the Turkish champions.

Caner has denied all charges, but it marks another difficult moment in Besiktas’ season, with the Eagles all-but-out of the Champions League and trailing in their domestic title race.
