Napoli to remove Sarri clause

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis will reportedly meet Maurizio Sarri this week, with the aim of removing the Coach’s release clause.

The tactician has taken the Partenopei to a thrilling Scudetto challenge, and they currently sit two points behind Serie A leaders Juventus.

Sarri’s contract runs until 2020, but there is a clause in his contract which would allow him to leave for €8m in the summer.

The Coach himself said this week that his renewal is “a false problem”, and Il Mattino is reporting that he and De Laurentiis will meet this week.

The President wants to extend Sarri’s contract until 2022, while also doubling his salary to around €3m per season.

At the same time, the club would remove the release clause in Sarri’s contract.

De Laurentiis is heading to the United States at the weekend, so a face-to-face meeting, or at the very least a phone call, is expected this week.
