Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet assures Serie A “is one of the best tournaments in Europe and I’m not interested in the Premier League.”

The Belgium international has been snubbed by his country of late, despite strong performances at Marassi.

“I don’t understand why people who don’t play are still called up for international duty, but evidently Serie A isn’t watched very closely in Belgium,” Praet told Le Soir.

“I don’t understand why people who don’t play are still called up for international duty, but evidently Serie A isn’t watched very closely in Belgium,” Praet told Le Soir.

“I had some time out due to injury, but I am doing well. I am convinced that if Samp played in England, I’d have been called up by Belgium.

“It’s not true what people say about Italian football, as I realised straight away that it’s far more attacking than they think. Serie A is one of the best tournaments in Europe, there are no doubts. I don’t understand those who criticised my decision to play for Sampdoria.”

Praet has been linked with a move away from the Blucerchiati this summer, with several Premier League clubs preparing bids, above all Newcastle United and Everton.

“I am not interested in the Premier League. I have always said my preferred competitions are in Italy and Spain. I think they are more suited to my characteristics.

“I have improved a great deal since I’ve been here. I am truly happy that I chose the Blucerchiati.”
