Leonardo Pavoletti complains he went to Napoli “ready to be a protagonist, but became less than a minion” in Maurizio Sarri’s side.
After a strong campaign at Genoa, Napoli paid €18m to sign the centre-forward in January 2017, but he managed only 10 appearances for the club in all competition, failing to score a single goal.
He was shipped out to Cagliari six months later for just €10m plus €2m bonuses and has rediscovered his scoring touch with eight goals in 24 games this season.
“I had gone to Napoli ready to be a protagonist, but then I became less than a minion,” Pavoloso told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.
“Let’s just say you always have to accept challenges, otherwise if you end up stuck in your comfort zone, you’ll never know what you’re really capable of.”
Despite the ill-fated spell at the Stadio San Paolo, Pavoletti is still cheering on his former teammates.
“I think Napoli will win the Scudetto ahead of Juventus.”
