Clarence Seedorf has explained why Jose Mourinho must thank Milan ‘for becoming a great Coach’.

Milan were thrashed 4-0 by Deportivo La Coruna in the 2004 Champions League quarter-finals, yet Mourinho’s Porto went on to beat the Spaniards in the last four, prior to winning the competition.

“My worst defeat? The 4-0 to Deportivo. It was the worst game of my life, even worse than Istanbul,” continued Seedorf – now in charge of Depor – Fox Sports.

“When I enter Riazor, there are photos of the goals that they scored against us that night.

“I see them every time I go down to the pitch, and they make me realise how important that match was for the fans here.

“Milan were a super team back then and should’ve won the treble that season.”
